The Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) presented Longwood Security Capt. Martin Egan with the Patriot Award on Monday, January 30, 2017.

The first in ESGR's series of awards, the Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.

The Patriot Award recognize employers who have shown outstanding support for their employees who are Guardsmen and Reservists. Patriot Awards are awarded to an individual’s direct line supervisor. This is the first step in the nomination process for ESGR Awards. Longwood was nominated for an ESGR 2017 Organizational Award. Longwood will again be nominated this year for the ESGR 7 Seals.

The nominations for both awards were made by Longwood’s Sergeant Thomas Gaughan III, who is a member of the United States Army Reserve.
